Omega House Golf Outing raises more than $10,000 |

The eighth annual Omega House Omega House golf outing held Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Portage Lake golf course in Houghton was a huge success raising over $10,000 to support Omega House, the Upper Peninsula’s only hospice home.
Twenty one three-person teams participated in the event. Several businesses and organizations were represented by teams. Prizes were awarded for the top three teams in two flights in addition to winners of the longest drive. The winning team was made up of Tim Baroni, Jamey Markham and Jeff Markham.
Major sponsors of the 2010 event were Ameriprise Financial, Inc., Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, Aspirus Keweenaw Home Health and Hospice, Bruce Rukkila, CPA, PC, Daily Mining Gazette, Keweenaw Brewing Company, Portage Health, and Range Bank – Copper Country.
Major sponsors are joined by supporters Antila Funeral Services, Copper Country Veterinary Clinic, Copper Country Ford, DP Construction, Keweenaw Automotive Inc., Keweenaw MLS, Louie’s Super Valu Foods and Quality Hardware, Martineau-Morris Contracting, Inc., McGann Building Supply, Michigan Tech Portage Lake Golf Course, Michigan Tech Sports and Recreation, Michigan Tech Campus Store/University Images, RE/MAX Douglas Real Estate, Salon by Michelle, Statewide Real Estate of Houghton, Superior National Bank and Trust and Warm Rain. A number of area businesses also donated items for the door prize drawing.
Omega House opened in September 2005 and has served 209 residents since opening. The home was developed to care for terminally ill hospice patients. Residents of the home have come from Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga counties with inquiries stretching as far as Marquette, Gogebic and Ontonagon.
